What was your funniest experience at Fenway Park? Bet you had a few. Well, mine was the time my mother, father, myself and my then girlfriend Theresa (later to be my wife) went to Fenway Park. Theresa had never before seen a major league game and didn't know anything about the seventh inning stretch and was not that familiar with the nuances of baseball either. That is where the fun came in. It was long ago and I don't know whether the Red Sox won or lost but I do remember my idea. Seconds before everyone was about to stand for the seventh inning stretch, I said to Theresa. Watch me! I am going to make the entire ballpark stand up! I jumped to my feet and almost immediately everyone stood up! My wife to be looked at me in gaping amazement!! Unfortunately, she did learn all about the seventh inning stretch. However, for a short time, I was Mister Magic!! P.S. Some claim the seventh inning stretch happened when U.S. President William Howard Taft rose in the seventh inning and the fans thinking he was leaving all rose out of of respect. However, all the President was doing was stretching!! Others claim that it happened long before in the previous century. I would like to claim that I did it to impress my wife to be but I can't!! |
